(Alef) How happy are those whose way of life is blameless, who live by the Torah of ADONAI! 1 Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD.
How happy are those who observe his instruction, who seek him wholeheartedly! 2 Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart.
They do nothing wrong but live by his ways. 3 They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways.
You laid down your precepts for us to observe with care. 4 You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.
May my ways be steady in observing your laws. 5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees!
Then I will not be put to shame, since I will have fixed my sight on all your mitzvot. 6 Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands.
I thank you with a sincere heart as I learn your righteous rulings. 7 I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.
I will observe your laws; don't completely abandon me! 8 I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me.
(Bet) How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. 9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart; don't let me stray from your mitzvot. 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.
I treasure your word in my heart, so that I won't sin against you. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Blessed are you, ADONAI! Teach me your laws. 12 Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees.
I proclaim with my mouth all the rulings you have spoken. 13 With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.
I rejoice in the way of your instruction more than in any kind of wealth. 14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.
I will meditate on your precepts and keep my eyes on your ways. 15 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.
I will find my delight in your regulations. I will not forget your word. 16 I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.
(Gimel) Deal generously with your servant; then I will live and observe your word. 17 Do good to your servant, and I will live; I will obey your word.
Open my eyes, so that I will see wonders from your Torah. 18 Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.
Though I'm just a wanderer on the earth, don't hide your mitzvot from me. 19 I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me.
I am continually consumed with longing for your rulings. 20 My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times.
You rebuke the proud, the cursed, who stray from your mitzvot. 21 You rebuke the arrogant, who are cursed and who stray from your commands.
Remove scorn and contempt from me, because I observe your instruction. 22 Remove from me scorn and contempt, for I keep your statutes.
Even when princes sit and plot against me, your servant meditates on your laws. 23 Though rulers sit together and slander me, your servant will meditate on your decrees.
Also your instructions are my delight; they are my counselors. 24 Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.
(Dalet) I lie prostrate in the dust; revive me, in keeping with your word. 25 I am laid low in the dust; preserve my life according to your word.
I told you of my ways, and you answered me; teach me your laws. 26 I recounted my ways and you answered me; teach me your decrees.
Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wonders. 27 Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders.
I am melting away from anxiety and grief; renew my strength, in keeping with your word. 28 My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.
Keep deceitful ways far from me, and favor me with your Torah. 29 Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law.
I choose the way of trust; I set your rulings [before me]. 30 I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws.
I cling to your instruction; ADONAI, don't let me be put to shame! 31 I hold fast to your statutes, O LORD; do not let me be put to shame.
I will run the way of your mitzvot, for you have broadened my understanding. 32 I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.
(Heh) Teach me, ADONAI, the way of your laws; keeping them will be its own reward for me. 33 Teach me, O LORD, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end.
Give me understanding; then I will keep your Torah; I will observe it with all my heart. 34 Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart.
Guide me on the path of your mitzvot, for I take pleasure in it. 35 Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.
Bend my heart toward your instructions and not toward selfish gain. 36 Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.
Turn my eyes away from worthless things; with your ways, give me life. 37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.
Fulfill your promise, which you made to your servant, which you made to those who fear you. 38 Fulfill your promise to your servant, so that you may be feared.
Avert the disgrace which I dread, for your rulings are good. 39 Take away the disgrace I dread, for your laws are good.
See how I long for your precepts; in your righteousness, give me life! 40 How I long for your precepts! Preserve my life in your righteousness.
May your grace come to me, ADONAI, your salvation, as you promised; 41 May your unfailing love come to me, O LORD, your salvation according to your promise;
then I will have an answer for those who taunt me; for I trust in your word. 42 then I will answer the one who taunts me, for I trust in your word.
Don't take away completely my power to speak the truth; for I put my hope in your rulings; 43 Do not snatch the word of truth from my mouth, for I have put my hope in your laws.
and I will keep your Torah always, forever and ever. 44 I will always obey your law, for ever and ever.
I will go wherever I like, for I have sought your precepts. 45 I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.
I will speak of your instructions even to kings without being ashamed. 46 I will speak of your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame,
I will delight myself in your mitzvot, which I have loved. 47 for I delight in your commands because I love them.
I will lift my hands to your mitzvot, which I love; and I will meditate on your laws. 48 I lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and I meditate on your decrees.
(Zayin) Remember your promise to your servant, through which you have given me hope. 49 Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope.
In my distress my comfort is this: that your promise gives me life. 50 My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.
Though the arrogant scorn me completely, I have not turned away from your Torah. 51 The arrogant mock me without restraint, but I do not turn from your law.
ADONAI, I keep in mind your age-old rulings; in them I take comfort. 52 I remember your ancient laws, O LORD, and I find comfort in them.
Fury seizes me when I think of the wicked, because they abandon your Torah. 53 Indignation grips me because of the wicked, who have forsaken your law.
Your laws have become my songs wherever I make my home. 54 Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge.
I remember your name, ADONAI, at night; and I observe your Torah. 55 In the night I remember your name, O LORD, and I will keep your law.
This [comfort] has come to me, because I observe your precepts. 56 This has been my practice: I obey your precepts.
(Het) ADONAI, I say that my task is to observe your words. 57 You are my portion, O LORD; I have promised to obey your words.
I beg your favor with my whole heart; show pity to me, in keeping with your promise. 58 I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise.
I thought about my ways and turned my feet toward your instruction. 59 I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes.
I hurry, I don't delay, to observe your mitzvot. 60 I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.
Even when the cords of the wicked close around me, I don't forget your Torah. 61 Though the wicked bind me with ropes, I will not forget your law.
At midnight I rise to give you thanks because of your righteous rulings. 62 At midnight I rise to give you thanks for your righteous laws.
I am a friend of all who fear you, of those who observe your precepts. 63 I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts.
The earth, ADONAI, is full of your grace; teach me your laws. 64 The earth is filled with your love, O LORD; teach me your decrees.
(Tet) You have treated your servant well, ADONAI, in keeping with your word. 65 Do good to your servant according to your word, O LORD.
Teach me good judgment and knowledge, because I trust in your mitzvot. 66 Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I believe in your commands.
Before I was humbled, I used to go astray; but now I observe your word. 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word.
You are good, and you do good; teach me your laws. 68 You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees.
The arrogant are slandering me, but I will wholeheartedly keep your precepts. 69 Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies, I keep your precepts with all my heart.
Their hearts are as thick as fat, but I take delight in your Torah. 70 Their hearts are callous and unfeeling, but I delight in your law.
It is for my good that I have been humbled; it was so that I would learn your laws. 71 It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.
The Torah you have spoken means more to me than a fortune in gold and silver. 72 The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.
(Yud) Your hands made and formed me; give me understanding, so I can learn your mitzvot. 73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
Those who fear you rejoice at the sight of me, because I put my hope in your word. 74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.
I know, ADONAI, that your rulings are righteous, that even when you humble me you are faithful. 75 I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
Let your grace comfort me, in keeping with your promise to your servant. 76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
Show me pity, and I will live, for your Torah is my delight. 77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.
Let the proud be ashamed, because they wrong me with lies; as for me, I will meditate on your precepts. 78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; but I will meditate on your precepts.
Let those who fear you turn to me, along with those who know your instruction. 79 May those who fear you turn to me, those who understand your statutes.
Let my heart be pure in your laws, so that I won't be put to shame. 80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame.
(Kaf) I am dying to know your salvation; my hope is in your word. 81 My soul faints with longing for your salvation, but I have put my hope in your word.
My eyes fail from watching for your promise; I ask, "When will you comfort me?" 82 My eyes fail, looking for your promise; I say, "When will you comfort me?"
For I have shriveled like a wineskin in a smoky room; still, I don't forget your laws. 83 Though I am like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not forget your decrees.
How long can your servant stay alive? When will you bring judgment on my persecutors? 84 How long must your servant wait? When will you punish my persecutors?
The arrogant have dug pits for me to fall in; this is not in keeping with your Torah! 85 The arrogant dig pitfalls for me, contrary to your law.
All your mitzvot [show your] faithfulness; they are hounding me with lies; help me! 86 All your commands are trustworthy; help me, for men persecute me without cause.
They have nearly ended my life on earth, but I have not abandoned your precepts. 87 They almost wiped me from the earth, but I have not forsaken your precepts.
In keeping with your grace, revive me; and I will observe your spoken instructions. 88 Preserve my life according to your love, and I will obey the statutes of your mouth.
(Lamed) Your word continues forever, ADONAI, firmly fixed in heaven; 89 Your word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.
your faithfulness through all generations; you established the earth, and it stands. 90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures.
Yes, it stands today, in keeping with your rulings; for all things are your servants. 91 Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you.
If your Torah had not been my delight, I would have perished in my distress. 92 If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.
I will never forget your precepts, for with them you have made me alive. 93 I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life.
I am yours; save me because I seek your precepts. 94 Save me, for I am yours; I have sought out your precepts.
The wicked hope to destroy me, but I focus on your instruction. 95 The wicked are waiting to destroy me, but I will ponder your statutes.
(Mem) I see the limits of all perfection, but your mitzvah has no bounds. 96 To all perfection I see a limit; but your commands are boundless.
How I love your Torah! I meditate on it all day. 97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.
I am wiser than my foes, because your mitzvot are mine forever. 98 Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me.
I have more understanding than all my teachers, because I meditate on your instruction. 99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.
I understand more than my elders, because I keep your precepts. 100 I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.
I keep my feet from every evil way, in order to observe your word. 101 I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word.
I don't turn away from your rulings, because you have instructed me. 102 I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me.
How sweet to my tongue is your promise, truly sweeter than honey in my mouth! 103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
From your precepts I gain understanding; this is why I hate every false way. 104 I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.
(Nun) Your word is a lamp for my foot and light on my path. 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, that I will observe your righteous rulings. 106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws.
I am very much distressed; ADONAI, give me life, in keeping with your word. 107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your word.
Please accept my mouth's voluntary offerings, ADONAI; and teach me your rulings. 108 Accept, O LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws.
I am continually taking my life in my hands, yet I haven't forgotten your Torah. 109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law.
The wicked have set a trap for me, yet I haven't strayed from your precepts. 110 The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts.
I take your instruction as a permanent heritage, because it is the joy of my heart. 111 Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart.
I have resolved to obey your laws forever, at every step. 112 My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.
(Samekh) I hate doubleminded people, but I love your Torah. 113 I hate double-minded men, but I love your law.
You are my hiding-place and shield; I put my hope in your word. 114 You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.
Leave me alone, you evildoers, so that I can keep my God's mitzvot. 115 Away from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commands of my God!
Uphold me, as you promised; and I will live; don't disappoint me in my hope. 116 Sustain me according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed.
Support me; and I will be saved, always putting my attention on your laws. 117 Uphold me, and I will be delivered; I will always have regard for your decrees.
You reject all who stray from your laws, for what they deceive themselves with is false. 118 You reject all who stray from your decrees, for their deceitfulness is in vain.
You discard the wicked of the earth like slag; this is why I love your instruction. 119 All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross; therefore I love your statutes.
My body trembles for fear of you; your rulings make me afraid. 120 My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws.
('Ayin) I have done what is just and right; don't abandon me to my oppressors. 121 I have done what is righteous and just; do not leave me to my oppressors.
Guarantee your servant's well-being; don't let the arrogant oppress me. 122 Ensure your servant's well-being; let not the arrogant oppress me.
My eyes fail from watching for your salvation and for [the fulfillment of] your righteous promise. 123 My eyes fail, looking for your salvation, looking for your righteous promise.
Deal with your servant in accordance with your grace, and teach me your laws. 124 Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees.
I am your servant; give me understanding, so that I can know your instruction. 125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.
The time has come for ADONAI to act, because they are breaking your Torah. 126 It is time for you to act, O LORD; your law is being broken.
Therefore I love your mitzvot more than gold, more than fine gold. 127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold,
Thus I direct my steps by [your] precepts; every false way I hate. 128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.
(Peh) Your instruction is a wonder; this is why I follow it. 129 Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them.
Your words are a doorway that lets in light, giving understanding to the thoughtless. 130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
My mouth is wide open, as I pant with longing for your mitzvot. 131 I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands.
Turn to me, and show me your favor; in keeping with [your] judgment for those who love your name. 132 Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name.
Guide my footsteps by your word; don't let any kind of sin rule me. 133 Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.
Redeem me from human oppression, and I will observe your precepts. 134 Redeem me from the oppression of men, that I may obey your precepts.
Make your face shine on your servant, and teach me your laws. 135 Make your face shine upon your servant and teach me your decrees.
Rivers of tears flow down from my eyes, because they don't observe your Torah. 136 Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for your law is not obeyed.
(Tzadeh) You are righteous, ADONAI; and your rulings are upright. 137 Righteous are you, O LORD, and your laws are right.
You have commanded your instructions in righteousness and great faithfulness. 138 The statutes you have laid down are righteous; they are fully trustworthy.
My zeal is destroying me, because my foes have forgotten your words. 139 My zeal wears me out, for my enemies ignore your words.
Your word is refined to complete purity, and your servant loves it. 140 Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them.
I may be small and despised, but I do not forget your precepts. 141 Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts.
Your righteousness is eternal righteousness, and your Torah is truth. 142 Your righteousness is everlasting and your law is true.
Trouble and distress have overtaken me, but your mitzvot are my delight. 143 Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands are my delight.
Your instruction is righteous forever; give me understanding, and I will live. 144 Your statutes are forever right; give me understanding that I may live.
(Kuf) Wholeheartedly I am calling on you; answer me, ADONAI; I will keep your laws. 145 I call with all my heart; answer me, O LORD, and I will obey your decrees.
I am calling on you; save me; and I will observe your instruction. 146 I call out to you; save me and I will keep your statutes.
I rise before dawn and cry for help; I put my hope in your word. 147 I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word.
My eyes are open before the night watches, so that I can meditate on your promise. 148 My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises.
In your grace, hear my voice; ADONAI, in keeping with your justice, revive me. 149 Hear my voice in accordance with your love; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your laws.
The pursuers of carnality are getting close; they are distancing themselves from your Torah. 150 Those who devise wicked schemes are near, but they are far from your law.
You are close by, ADONAI; and all your mitzvot are truth. 151 Yet you are near, O LORD, and all your commands are true.
Long ago I learned from your instruction that you established it forever. 152 Long ago I learned from your statutes that you established them to last forever.
(Resh) Look at my distress, and rescue me, for I do not forget your Torah. 153 Look upon my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law.
Plead my cause, and redeem me; in keeping with your promise, revive me. 154 Defend my cause and redeem me; preserve my life according to your promise.
Salvation is far away from the wicked, because they don't seek your laws. 155 Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek out your decrees.
Great is your compassion, ADONAI; in keeping with your rulings, revive me. 156 Your compassion is great, O LORD; preserve my life according to your laws.
Although my persecutors and foes are many, I have not turned away from your instruction. 157 Many are the foes who persecute me, but I have not turned from your statutes.
I look at traitors with disgust, because they don't keep your word. 158 I look on the faithless with loathing, for they do not obey your word.
See how I love your precepts, ADONAI; in keeping with your grace, revive me. 159 See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your love.
The main thing about your word is that it's true; and all your just rulings last forever. 160 All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.
(Shin) Princes persecute me for no reason, but my heart stands in awe of your words. 161 Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart trembles at your word.
I take joy in your promise, like someone who finds much booty. 162 I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil.
I hate falsehood, I detest it; but I love your Torah. 163 I hate and abhor falsehood but I love your law.
I praise you seven times a day because of your righteous rulings. 164 Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous laws.
Those who love your Torah have great peace; nothing makes them stumble. 165 Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.
I hope for your deliverance, ADONAI; I obey your mitzvot. 166 I wait for your salvation, O LORD, and I follow your commands.
My soul observes your instruction, and I love it so much! 167 I obey your statutes, for I love them greatly.
I observe your precepts and instruction, for all my ways lie open before you. 168 I obey your precepts and your statutes, for all my ways are known to you.
(Tav) Let my cry come before you, ADONAI; in keeping with your word, give me understanding. 169 May my cry come before you, O LORD; give me understanding according to your word.
Let my prayer come before you; in keeping with your promise, rescue me. 170 May my supplication come before you; deliver me according to your promise.
Let my lips speak praise, because you teach me your laws. 171 May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees.
Let my tongue sing of your promise, because all your mitzvot are righteous. 172 May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous.
Let your hand be ready to help me, because I choose your precepts. 173 May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.
I long for your deliverance, ADONAI; and your Torah is my delight. 174 I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight.
Let me live, and I will praise you; let your rulings help me. 175 Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me.
I strayed like a lost sheep; seek out your servant; for I do not forget your mitzvot. 176 I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.
