New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
A song for the ascent to Jerusalem. I took my troubles to the LORD; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer. 1 I call on the LORD in my distress, and he answers me.
Rescue me, O LORD, from liars and from all deceitful people. 2 Save me, O LORD, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues.
O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment? 3 What will he do to you, and what more besides, O deceitful tongue?
You will be pierced with sharp arrows and burned with glowing coals. 4 He will punish you with a warrior's sharp arrows, with burning coals of the broom tree.
How I suffer among these scoundrels of Meshech! It pains me to live with these people from Kedar! 5 Woe to me that I dwell in Meshech, that I live among the tents of Kedar!
I am tired of living here among people who hate peace. 6 Too long have I lived among those who hate peace.
As for me, I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war! 7 I am a man of peace; but when I speak, they are for war.
