Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
A Song of Ascents. To thee I lift up my eyes, O thou who art enthroned in the heavens! 1 I lift up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven.
Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he have mercy upon us. 2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy.
Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt. 3 Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt.
Too long our soul has been sated with the scorn of those who are at ease, the contempt of the proud. 4 We have endured much ridicule from the proud, much contempt from the arrogant.
