Bible in Basic English (BBE) New International Version (NIV)
Great have been my troubles from the time when I was young (let Israel now say); 1 They have greatly oppressed me from my youth-- let Israel say--
Great have been my troubles from the time when I was young, but my troubles have not overcome me. 2 they have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me.
The ploughmen were ploughing on my back; long were the wounds they made. 3 Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long.
The Lord is true: the cords of the evil-doers are broken in two. 4 But the LORD is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.
Let all the haters of Zion be shamed and turned back. 5 May all who hate Zion be turned back in shame.
Let them be like the grass on the house-tops, which is dry before it comes to full growth. 6 May they be like grass on the roof, which withers before it can grow;
He who gets in the grain has no use for it; and they do not make bands of it for the grain-stems. 7 with it the reaper cannot fill his hands, nor the one who gathers fill his arms.
And those who go by do not say, The blessing of the Lord be on you; we give you blessing in the name of the Lord. 8 May those who pass by not say, "The blessing of the LORD be upon you; we bless you in the name of the LORD."
