The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
{A Song of degrees.} Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth -- oh let Israel say -- 1 They have greatly oppressed me from my youth-- let Israel say--
Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth; yet they have not prevailed against me. 2 they have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me.
The ploughers ploughed upon my back; they made long their furrows. 3 Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long.
Jehovah is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked. 4 But the LORD is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.
Let them be ashamed and turned backward, all that hate Zion; 5 May all who hate Zion be turned back in shame.
Let them be as the grass upon the house-tops, which withereth before it is plucked up, 6 May they be like grass on the roof, which withers before it can grow;
Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand, nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom; 7 with it the reaper cannot fill his hands, nor the one who gathers fill his arms.
Neither do the passers-by say, The blessing of Jehovah be upon you; we bless you in the name of Jehovah! 8 May those who pass by not say, "The blessing of the LORD be upon you; we bless you in the name of the LORD."
