LORD, remember David— all the ways he suffered 1 O LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured.
and how he swore to the LORD, how he promised the strong one of Jacob: 2 He swore an oath to the LORD and made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:
"I won't enter my house, won't get into my bed. 3 "I will not enter my house or go to my bed--
I won't let my eyes close, won't let my eyelids sleep, 4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids,
until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the strong one of Jacob." 5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob."
Yes, we heard about it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. 6 We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:
Let's enter God's dwelling place; let's worship at the place God rests his feet! 7 "Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool--
Get up, LORD, go to your residence— you and your powerful covenant chest! 8 arise, O LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.
Let your priests be dressed in righteousness; let your faithful shout out with joy! 9 May your priests be clothed with righteousness; may your saints sing for joy."
And for the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one. 10 For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your anointed one.
The LORD swore to David a true promise that God won't take back: "I will put one of your own children on your throne. 11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: "One of your own descendants I will place on your throne--
And if your children keep my covenant and the laws that I will teach them, then their children too will rule on your throne forever." 12 if your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever."
Because the LORD chose Zion; he wanted it for his home. 13 For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling:
"This is my residence forever. I will live here because I wanted it for myself. 14 "This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it--
I will most certainly bless its food supply; I will fill its needy full of food! 15 I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor will I satisfy with food.
I will dress its priests in salvation, and its faithful will shout out loud with joy! 16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints will ever sing for joy.
It is there that I will make David's strength thrive. I will prepare a lamp for my anointed one there. 17 "Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one.
I will dress his enemies in shame, but the crown he wears will shine." 18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown on his head will be resplendent."
