Psalm 139 NCV/NIV - Online Parallel Bible

New Century Version (NCV) New International Version (NIV)
Lord, you have examined me and know all about me. 1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
You know when I sit down and when I get up. You know my thoughts before I think them. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You know where I go and where I lie down. You know thoroughly everything I do. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Lord, even before I say a word, you already know it. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
You are all around me -- in front and in back -- and have put your hand on me. 5 You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
Your knowledge is amazing to me; it is more than I can understand. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go to get away from your Spirit? Where can I run from you? 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there. If I lie down in the grave, you are there. 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise with the sun in the east and settle in the west beyond the sea, 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there you would guide me. With your right hand you would hold me. 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
I could say, "The darkness will hide me. Let the light around me turn into night." 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"
But even the darkness is not dark to you. The night is as light as the day; darkness and light are the same to you. 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
You made my whole being; you formed me in my mother's body. 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way. What you have done is wonderful. I know this very well. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
You saw my bones being formed as I took shape in my mother's body. When I was put together there, 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
you saw my body as it was formed. All the days planned for me were written in your book before I was one day old. 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
God, your thoughts are precious to me. They are so many! 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
If I could count them, they would be more than all the grains of sand. When I wake up, I am still with you. 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
God, I wish you would kill the wicked! Get away from me, you murderers! 19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
They say evil things about you. Your enemies use your name thoughtlessly. 20 They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
Lord, I hate those who hate you; I hate those who rise up against you. 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD, and abhor those who rise up against you?
I feel only hate for them; they are my enemies. 22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
God, examine me and know my heart; test me and know my nervous thoughts. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any bad thing in me. Lead me on the road to everlasting life. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
