Bible in Basic English (BBE) New International Version (NIV)
The foolish man has said in his heart, God will not do anything. They are unclean, they have done evil works; there is not one who does good. 1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.
The Lord was looking down from heaven on the children of men, to see if there were any who had wisdom, searching after God. 2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.
They have all gone out of the way together; they are unclean, there is not one who does good, no, not one. 3 All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.
Have all the workers of evil no knowledge? they take my people for food as they would take bread; they make no prayer to the Lord. 4 Will evildoers never learn-- those who devour my people as men eat bread and who do not call on the LORD?
Then were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the upright. 5 There they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous.
You have put to shame the thoughts of the poor, but the Lord is his support. 6 You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge.
May the salvation of Israel come out of Zion! when the fate of his people is changed by the Lord, Jacob will have joy and Israel will be glad. 7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
