Douay-Rheims (RHE) New International Version (NIV)
(143-1) Blessed be the Lord my God, who teacheth my hands to fight, and my fingers to war. 1 Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.
(143-2) My mercy, and my refuge: my support, and my deliverer: My protector, and I have hoped in him: who subdueth my people under me. 2 He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.
(143-3) Lord, what is man, that thou art made known to him? or the son of man, that thou makest account of him? 3 O LORD, what is man that you care for him, the son of man that you think of him?
(143-4) Man is like to vanity: his days pass away like a shadow. 4 Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow.
(143-5) Lord, bow down thy heavens and descend: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke. 5 Part your heavens, O LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, so that they smoke.
(143-6) Send forth lightning, and thou shalt scatter them: shoot out thy arrows, and thou shalt trouble them. 6 Send forth lightning and scatter [the enemies]; shoot your arrows and rout them.
(143-7) Put forth thy hand from on high, take me out, and deliver me from many waters: from the hand of strange children: 7 Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me and rescue me from the mighty waters, from the hands of foreigners
(143-8) Whose mouth hath spoken vanity: and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity. 8 whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful.
(143-9) To thee, O God, I will sing a new canticle: on the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings I will sing praises to thee. 9 I will sing a new song to you, O God; on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you,
(143-10) Who givest salvation to kings: who hast redeemed thy servant David from the malicious sword: 10 to the One who gives victory to kings, who delivers his servant David from the deadly sword.
(143-11) Deliver me, And rescue me out of the hand of strange children; whose mouth hath spoken vanity: and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity: 11 Deliver me and rescue me from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful.
(143-12) Whose sons are as new plants in their youth: Their daughters decked out, adorned round about after the similitude of a temple: 12 Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace.
(143-13) Their storehouses full, flowing out of this into that. Their sheep fruitful in young, abounding in their goings forth: 13 Our barns will be filled with every kind of provision. Our sheep will increase by thousands, by tens of thousands in our fields;
(143-14) Their oxen fat. There is no breach of wall, nor passage, nor crying out in their streets. 14 our oxen will draw heavy loads. There will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets.
(143-15) They have called the people happy, that hath these things: but happy is that people whose God is the Lord. 15 Blessed are the people of whom this is true; blessed are the people whose God is the LORD.
