GOD'S WORD Translation (GW) New International Version (NIV)
Hear my plea for justice, O LORD. Pay attention to my cry. Open your ears to my prayer, [which comes] from lips free from deceit. 1 Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer-- it does not rise from deceitful lips.
Let the verdict of my innocence come directly from you. Let your eyes observe what is fair. 2 May my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right.
You have probed my heart. You have confronted me at night. You have tested me like silver, but you found nothing wrong. I have determined that my mouth will not sin. 3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.
I have avoided cruelty because of your word. In spite of what others have done, 4 As for the deeds of men-- by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.
my steps have remained firmly in your paths. My feet have not slipped. 5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.
I have called on you because you answer me, O God. Turn your ear toward me. Hear what I have to say. 6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.
Reveal your miraculous deeds of mercy, O Savior of those who find refuge by your side from those who attack them. 7 Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes.
Guard me as if I were the pupil in your eye. Hide me in the shadow of your wings. 8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings
Hide me from wicked people who violently attack me, from my deadly enemies who surround me. 9 from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.
They have shut out all feeling. Their mouths have spoken arrogantly. 10 They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance.
They have tracked me down. They have surrounded me. They have focused their attention on throwing me to the ground. 11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
Each one of them is like a lion eager to tear [its prey] apart and like a young lion crouching in hiding places. 12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover.
Arise, O LORD; confront them! Bring them to their knees! With your sword rescue my life from wicked people. 13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword.
With your power rescue me from mortals, O LORD, from mortals who enjoy their inheritance only in this life. You fill their bellies with your treasure. Their children are satisfied [with it], and they leave what remains to their children. 14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.
I will see your face when I am declared innocent. When I wake up, I will be satisfied [with seeing] you. 15 And I--in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.
