New Century Version (NCV) New International Version (NIV)
Lord, hear me begging for fairness; listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, because I speak the truth. 1 Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer-- it does not rise from deceitful lips.
You will judge that I am right; your eyes can see what is true. 2 May my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right.
You have examined my heart; you have tested me all night. You questioned me without finding anything wrong; I have not sinned with my mouth. 3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.
I have obeyed your commands, so I have not done what evil people do. 4 As for the deeds of men-- by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.
I have done what you told me; I have not failed. 5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.
I call to you, God, and you answer me. Listen to me now, and hear what I say. 6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.
Your love is wonderful. By your power you save those who trust you from their enemies. 7 Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes.
Protect me as you would protect your own eye. Hide me under the shadow of your wings. 8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings
Keep me from the wicked who attack me, from my enemies who surround me. 9 from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.
They are selfish and brag about themselves. 10 They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance.
They have chased me until they have surrounded me. They plan to throw me to the ground. 11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
They are like lions ready to kill; like lions, they sit in hiding. 12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover.
Lord, rise up, face the enemy, and throw them down. Save me from the wicked with your sword. 13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword.
Lord, save me by your power from those whose reward is in this life. They have plenty of food. They have many sons and leave much money to their children. 14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.
Because I have lived right, I will see your face. When I wake up, I will see your likeness and be satisfied. For the director of music. By the Lord's servant, David. David sang this song to the Lord when the Lord had saved him from Saul and all his other enemies. 15 And I--in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.
