The Message (MSG) New International Version (NIV)
My head is high, God, held high; 1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul;
I'm looking to you, God; No hangdog skulking for me. 2 in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me.
I've thrown in my lot with you; You won't embarrass me, will you? Or let my enemies get the best of me? Don't embarrass any of us Who went out on a limb for you. It's the traitors who should be humiliated. 3 No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse.
Show me how you work, God; School me in your ways. 4 Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths;
Take me by the hand; Lead me down the path of truth. You are my Savior, aren't you? 5 guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Mark the milestones of your mercy and love, God; Rebuild the ancient landmarks! 6 Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
Forget that I sowed wild oats; Mark me with your sign of love. Plan only the best for me, God! 7 Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O LORD.
God is fair and just; He corrects the misdirected, Sends them in the right direction. 8 Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
He gives the rejects his hand, And leads them step-by-step. 9 He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
From now on every road you travel Will take you to God. Follow the Covenant signs; Read the charted directions. 10 All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful for those who keep the demands of his covenant.
Keep up your reputation, God; Forgive my bad life; It's been a very bad life. 11 For the sake of your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
My question: What are God-worshipers like? Your answer: Arrows aimed at God's bull's-eye. 12 Who, then, is the man that fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way chosen for him.
They settle down in a promising place; Their kids inherit a prosperous farm. 13 He will spend his days in prosperity, and his descendants will inherit the land.
God-friendship is for God-worshipers; They are the ones he confides in. 14 The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.
If I keep my eyes on God, I won't trip over my own feet. 15 My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare.
Look at me and help me! I'm all alone and in big trouble. 16 Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.
My heart and kidneys are fighting each other; Call a truce to this civil war. 17 The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish.
Take a hard look at my life of hard labor, Then lift this ton of sin. 18 Look upon my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.
Do you see how many people Have it in for me? How viciously they hate me? 19 See how my enemies have increased and how fiercely they hate me!
Keep watch over me and keep me out of trouble; Don't let me down when I run to you. 20 Guard my life and rescue me; let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
Use all your skill to put me together; I wait to see your finished product. 21 May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope is in you.
God, give your people a break From this run of bad luck. 22 Redeem Israel, O God, from all their troubles!
