Good News Translation (GNT) New International Version (NIV)
The Lord is my light and my salvation; I will fear no one. The Lord protects me from all danger; I will never be afraid. 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid?
When evil people attack me and try to kill me, they stumble and fall. 2 When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.
Even if a whole army surrounds me, I will not be afraid; even if enemies attack me, I will still trust God. 3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.
I have asked the Lord for one thing; one thing only do I want: to live in the Lord's house all my life, to marvel there at his goodness, and to ask for his guidance. 4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.
In times of trouble he will shelter me; he will keep me safe in his Temple and make me secure on a high rock. 5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.
So I will triumph over my enemies around me. With shouts of joy I will offer sacrifices in his Temple; I will sing, I will praise the Lord. 6 Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.
Hear me, Lord, when I call to you! Be merciful and answer me! 7 Hear my voice when I call, O LORD; be merciful to me and answer me.
When you said, "Come worship me," I answered, "I will come, Lord." 8 My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek.
Don't hide yourself from me! Don't be angry with me; don't turn your servant away. You have been my help; don't leave me, don't abandon me, O God, my savior. 9 Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, O God my Savior.
My father and mother may abandon me, but the Lord will take care of me. 10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.
Teach me, Lord, what you want me to do, and lead me along a safe path, because I have many enemies. 11 Teach me your way, O LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.
Don't abandon me to my enemies, who attack me with lies and threats. 12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence.
I know that I will live to see the Lord's goodness in this present life. 13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Trust in the Lord. Have faith, do not despair. Trust in the Lord. 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
