| 1 A Psalm [and] Song, [at] the dedication of the house of David. I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. | 1 I will exalt you, O LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. |
| 2 O LORD my God, I cried to thee, and thou hast healed me. | 2 O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me. |
| 3 O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. | 3 O LORD, you brought me up from the grave; you spared me from going down into the pit. |
| 4 Sing to the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. | 4 Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name. |
| 5 For his anger [endureth but] a moment; in his favor [is] life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy [cometh] in the morning. | 5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. |
| 6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. | 6 When I felt secure, I said, "I will never be shaken." |
| 7 LORD, by thy favor thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, [and] I was troubled. | 7 O LORD, when you favored me, you made my mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed. |
| 8 I cried to thee, O LORD; and to the LORD I made supplication. | 8 To you, O LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy: |
| 9 What profit [is there] in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth? | 9 "What gain is there in my destruction, in my going down into the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness? |
| 10 Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper. | 10 Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me; O LORD, be my help." |
| 11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; | 11 You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, |
| 12 To the end that [my] glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to thee for ever. | 12 that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever. |
