The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
{A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.} Jehovah, rebuke me not in thy wrath; neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand cometh down upon me. 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me.
There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation; no peace in my bones, because of my sin. 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin.
For mine iniquities are gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.
My wounds stink, they are corrupt, because of my foolishness. 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly.
I am depressed; I am bowed down beyond measure; I go mourning all the day. 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning.
For my loins are full of burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body.
I am faint and broken beyond measure; I roar by reason of the agitation of my heart. 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.
Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my sighing is not hid from thee. 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.
My heart throbbeth, my strength hath left me; and the light of mine eyes, it also is no more with me. 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes.
My lovers and mine associates stand aloof from my stroke; and my kinsmen stand afar off. 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away.
And they that seek after my life lay snares [for me]; and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all the day long. 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception.
But I, as a deaf [man], hear not; and am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth;
Yea, I am as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs. 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply.
For in thee, Jehovah, do I hope: *thou* wilt answer, O Lord my God. 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God.
For I said, Let them not rejoice over me! When my foot slipped, they magnified [themselves] against me. 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips."
For I am ready to halt, and my pain is continually before me. 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me.
For I will declare mine iniquity, I am grieved for my sin. 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.
But mine enemies are lively, they are strong; and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied: 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous.
And they that render evil for good are adversaries unto me; because I pursue what is good. 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good.
Forsake me not, Jehovah; O my God, be not far from me. 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God.
Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation. 22 Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
