Young's Literal Translation (YLT) New International Version (NIV)
A Psalm of David, `To cause to remember.' Jehovah, in Thy wrath reprove me not, Nor in Thy fury chastise me. 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
For Thine arrows have come down on me, And Thou lettest down upon me Thy hand. 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me.
Soundness is not in my flesh, Because of Thine indignation, Peace is not in my bones because of my sin. 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin.
For mine iniquities have passed over my head, As a heavy burden -- too heavy for me. 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.
Stunk -- become corrupt have my wounds, Because of my folly. 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly.
I have been bent down, I have been bowed down -- unto excess, All the day I have gone mourning. 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning.
For my flanks have been full of drought, And soundness is not in my flesh. 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body.
I have been feeble and smitten -- unto excess, I have roared from disquietude of heart. 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.
Lord, before Thee [is] all my desire, And my sighing from Thee hath not been hid. 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.
My heart [is] panting, my power hath forsaken me, And the light of mine eyes, Even they are not with me. 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes.
My lovers and my friends over-against my plague stand. And my neighbours afar off have stood. 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away.
And those seeking my soul lay a snare, And those seeking my evil Have spoken mischievous things, And they do deceits meditate all the day. 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception.
And I, as deaf, hear not. And as a dumb one who openeth not his mouth. 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth;
Yea, I am as a man who heareth not, And in his mouth are no reproofs. 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply.
Because for Thee, O Jehovah, I have waited, Thou dost answer, O Lord my God. 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God.
When I said, `Lest they rejoice over me, In the slipping of my foot against me they magnified themselves. 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips."
For I am ready to halt, And my pain [is] before me continually. 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me.
For mine iniquity I declare, I am sorry for my sin. 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.
And mine enemies [are] lively, They have been strong, and those hating me without cause, Have been multiplied. 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous.
And those paying evil for good accuse me, Because of my pursuing good. 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good.
Do not forsake me, O Jehovah, My God, be not far from me, 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God.
Haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation! 22 Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
