Bible in Basic English (BBE) New International Version (NIV)
O Lord, do not be bitter with me in your wrath; do not send punishment on me in the heat of your passion. 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am wasted away: make me well, for even my bones are troubled. 2 Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am faint; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are in agony.
My soul is in bitter trouble; and you, O Lord, how long? 3 My soul is in anguish. How long, O LORD, how long?
Come back, O Lord, make my soul free; O give me salvation because of your mercy. 4 Turn, O LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.
For in death there is no memory of you; in the underworld who will give you praise? 5 No one remembers you when he is dead. Who praises you from the grave ?
The voice of my sorrow is a weariness to me; all the night I make my bed wet with weeping; it is watered by the drops flowing from my eyes. 6 I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
My eyes are wasting away with trouble; they are becoming old because of all those who are against me. 7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes.
Go from me, all you workers of evil; for the Lord has given ear to the voice of my weeping. 8 Away from me, all you who do evil, for the LORD has heard my weeping.
The Lord has given ear to my request; the Lord has let my prayer come before him. 9 The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer.
Let all those who are against me be shamed and deeply troubled; let them be turned back and suddenly put to shame. 10 All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed; they will turn back in sudden disgrace.
