New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
A psalm of David, regarding a time when David was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. 1 O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. 2 I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.
Your unfailing love is better to me than life itself; how I praise you! 3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.
I will honor you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. 4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.
You satisfy me more than the richest of foods. I will praise you with songs of joy. 5 My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. 6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.
I think how much you have helped me; I sing for joy in the shadow of your protecting wings. 7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.
I follow close behind you; your strong right hand holds me securely. 8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
But those plotting to destroy me will come to ruin. They will go down into the depths of the earth. 9 They who seek my life will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth.
They will die by the sword and become the food of jackals. 10 They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals.
But the king will rejoice in God. All who trust in him will praise him, while liars will be silenced. 11 But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God's name will praise him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.
