| The Message (MSG) | New International Version (NIV) |
| 1 All together now - applause for God! | 1 Shout with joy to God, all the earth! |
| 2 Sing songs to the tune of his glory, set glory to the rhythms of his praise. | 2 Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious! |
| 3 Say of God, "We've never seen anything like him!" When your enemies see you in action, they slink off like scolded dogs. | 3 Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. |
| 4 The whole earth falls to its knees - it worships you, sings to you, can't stop enjoying your name and fame. | 4 All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name." "Selah" |
| 5 Take a good look at God's wonders - they'll take your breath away. | 5 Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf ! |
| 6 He converted sea to dry land; travelers crossed the river on foot. Now isn't that cause for a song? | 6 He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot-- come, let us rejoice in him. |
| 7 Ever sovereign in his high tower, he keeps his eye on the godless nations. Rebels don't dare raise a finger against him. | 7 He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations-- let not the rebellious rise up against him. "Selah" |
| 8 Bless our God, O peoples! Give him a thunderous welcome! | 8 Praise our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard; |
| 9 Didn't he set us on the road to life? Didn't he keep us out of the ditch? | 9 he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping. |
| 10 He trained us first, passed us like silver through refining fires, | 10 For you, O God, tested us; you refined us like silver. |
| 11 Brought us into hardscrabble country, pushed us to our very limit, | 11 You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs. |
| 12 Road-tested us inside and out, took us to hell and back; Finally he brought us to this well-watered place. | 12 You let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance. |
| 13 I'm bringing my prizes and presents to your house. I'm doing what I said I'd do, | 13 I will come to your temple with burnt offerings and fulfill my vows to you-- |
| 14 What I solemnly swore I'd do that day when I was in so much trouble: | 14 vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble. |
| 15 The choicest cuts of meat for the sacrificial meal; Even the fragrance of roasted lamb is like a meal! Or make it an ox garnished with goat meat! | 15 I will sacrifice fat animals to you and an offering of rams; I will offer bulls and goats. "Selah" |
| 16 All believers, come here and listen, let me tell you what God did for me. | 16 Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me. |
| 17 I called out to him with my mouth, my tongue shaped the sounds of music. | 17 I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue. |
| 18 If I had been cozy with evil, the Lord would never have listened. | 18 If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; |
| 19 But he most surely did listen, he came on the double when he heard my prayer. | 19 but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. |
| 20 Blessed be God: he didn't turn a deaf ear, he stayed with me, loyal in his love. | 20 Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me! |
