New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
I come to you for protection, O LORD my God. Save me from my persecutors -- rescue me! 1 O LORD my God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from all who pursue me,
If you don't, they will maul me like a lion, tearing me to pieces with no one to rescue me. 2 or they will tear me like a lion and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
O LORD my God, if I have done wrong or am guilty of injustice, 3 O LORD my God, if I have done this and there is guilt on my hands--
if I have betrayed a friend or plundered my enemy without cause, 4 if I have done evil to him who is at peace with me or without cause have robbed my foe--
then let my enemies capture me. Let them trample me into the ground. Let my honor be left in the dust. Interlude 5 then let my enemy pursue and overtake me; let him trample my life to the ground and make me sleep in the dust. "Selah"
Arise, O LORD, in anger! Stand up against the fury of my enemies! Wake up, my God, and bring justice! 6 Arise, O LORD, in your anger; rise up against the rage of my enemies. Awake, my God; decree justice.
Gather the nations before you. Sit on your throne high above them. 7 Let the assembled peoples gather around you. Rule over them from on high;
The LORD passes judgment on the nations. Declare me righteous, O LORD, for I am innocent, O Most High! 8 let the LORD judge the peoples. Judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, according to my integrity, O Most High.
End the wickedness of the ungodly, but help all those who obey you. For you look deep within the mind and heart, O righteous God. 9 O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure.
God is my shield, saving those whose hearts are true and right. 10 My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart.
God is a judge who is perfectly fair. He is angry with the wicked every day. 11 God is a righteous judge, a God who expresses his wrath every day.
If a person does not repent, God will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. 12 If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow.
He will prepare his deadly weapons and ignite his flaming arrows. 13 He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.
The wicked conceive evil; they are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies. 14 He who is pregnant with evil and conceives trouble gives birth to disillusionment.
They dig a pit to trap others and then fall into it themselves. 15 He who digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit he has made.
They make trouble, but it backfires on them. They plan violence for others, but it falls on their own heads. 16 The trouble he causes recoils on himself; his violence comes down on his own head.
I will thank the LORD because he is just; I will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. 17 I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
