Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
A Prayer of David. Incline thy ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. 1 Hear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.
Preserve my life, for I am godly; save thy servant who trusts in thee. Thou art my God; 2 Guard my life, for I am devoted to you. You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you.
be gracious to me, O Lord, for to thee do I cry all the day. 3 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long.
Gladden the soul of thy servant, for to thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. 4 Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
For thou, O Lord, art good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on thee. 5 You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you.
Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; hearken to my cry of supplication. 6 Hear my prayer, O LORD; listen to my cry for mercy.
In the day of my trouble I call on thee, for thou dost answer me. 7 In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me.
There is none like thee among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like thine. 8 Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours.
All the nations thou hast made shall come and bow down before thee, O Lord, and shall glorify thy name. 9 All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name.
For thou art great and doest wondrous things, thou alone art God. 10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God.
Teach me thy way, O LORD, that I may walk in thy truth; unite my heart to fear thy name. 11 Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
I give thanks to thee, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify thy name for ever. 12 I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.
For great is thy steadfast love toward me; thou hast delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol. 13 For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.
O God, insolent men have risen up against me; a band of ruthless men seek my life, and they do not set thee before them. 14 The arrogant are attacking me, O God; a band of ruthless men seeks my life-- men without regard for you.
But thou, O Lord, art a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. 15 But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
Turn to me and take pity on me; give thy strength to thy servant, and save the son of thy handmaid. 16 Turn to me and have mercy on me; grant your strength to your servant and save the son of your maidservant.
Show me a sign of thy favor, that those who hate me may see and be put to shame because thou, LORD, hast helped me and comforted me. 17 Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, O LORD, have helped me and comforted me.
