New Revised Standard (NRS) New International Version (NIV)
Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. 1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. 2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
You turn us back to dust, and say, "Turn back, you mortals." 3 You turn men back to dust, saying, "Return to dust, O sons of men."
For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night. 4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
You sweep them away; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning; 5 You sweep men away in the sleep of death; they are like the new grass of the morning--
in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers. 6 though in the morning it springs up new, by evening it is dry and withered.
For we are consumed by your anger; by your wrath we are overwhelmed. 7 We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.
You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your countenance. 8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
For all our days pass away under your wrath; our years come to an end like a sigh. 9 All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan.
The days of our life are seventy years, or perhaps eighty, if we are strong; even then their span is only toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away. 10 The length of our days is seventy years-- or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
Who considers the power of your anger? Your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you. 11 Who knows the power of your anger? For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you.
So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart. 12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Turn, O Lord! How long? Have compassion on your servants! 13 Relent, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants.
Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. 14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
Make us glad as many days as you have afflicted us, and as many years as we have seen evil. 15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.
Let your work be manifest to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. 16 May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children.
Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper for us the work of our hands— O prosper the work of our hands! 17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us-- yes, establish the work of our hands.
