The Message (MSG) New International Version (NIV)
God, are you avoiding me? Where are you when I need you? 1 Why, O LORD, do you stand far off ? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
Full of hot air, the wicked are hot on the trail of the poor. Trip them up, tangle them up in their fine-tuned plots. 2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.
The wicked are windbags, the swindlers have foul breath. 3 He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD.
The wicked snub God, their noses stuck high in the air. Their graffiti are scrawled on the walls: "Catch us if you can!" "God is dead." 4 In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
They care nothing for what you think; if you get in their way, they blow you off. 5 His ways are always prosperous; he is haughty and your laws are far from him; he sneers at all his enemies.
They live (they think) a charmed life: "We can't go wrong. This is our lucky year!" 6 He says to himself, "Nothing will shake me; I'll always be happy and never have trouble."
