English Standard Version (ESV) New International Version (NIV)
Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit! 1 Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer-- it does not rise from deceitful lips.
From your presence let my vindication come! Let your eyes behold the right! 2 May my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right.
You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night, you have tested me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. 3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.
With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent. 4 As for the deeds of men-- by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.
My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped. 5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped.
I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words. 6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.
Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand. 7 Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes.
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings, 8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings
from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me. 9 from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.
They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly. 10 They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance.
They have now surrounded our steps; they set their eyes to cast us to the ground. 11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
He is like a lion eager to tear, as a young lion lurking in ambush. 12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover.
Arise, O LORD! Confront him, subdue him! Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword, 13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword.
from men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants. 14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.
As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness. 15 And I--in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.
