And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 1 A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.
And being with child, she cried travailing in birth: and was in pain to be delivered. 2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.
And there was seen another sign in heaven. And behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns and on his heads seven diadems. 3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads.
And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to be delivered: that, when she should be delivered, he might devour her son. 4 His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born.
And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with an iron rod. And her son was taken up to God and to his throne. 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.
And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she had a place prepared by God, that there they should feed her, a thousand two hundred sixty days. 6 The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.
And there was a great battle in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon, and the dragon fought, and his angels. 7 And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.
And they prevailed not: neither was their place found any more in heaven. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.
And that great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, who seduceth the whole world. And he was cast unto the earth: and his angels were thrown down with him. 9 The great dragon was hurled down--that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying: Now is come salvation and strength and the kingdom of our God and the power of his Christ: because the accuser of our brethren is cast forth, who accused them before our God day and night. 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of the testimony: and they loved not their lives unto death. 11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
Therefore, rejoice, O heavens, and you that dwell therein. Woe to the earth and to the sea, because the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, knowing that he hath but a short time. 12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short."
And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman who brought forth the man child. 13 When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.
And there were given to the woman two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the desert, unto her place, where she is nourished for a time and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. 14 The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the desert, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent's reach.
And the serpent cast out of his mouth, after the woman, water, as it were a river: that he might cause her to be carried away by the river. 15 Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent.
And the earth helped the woman: and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon cast out of his mouth. 16 But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth.
And the dragon was angry against the woman: and went to make war with the rest of her seed, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. 17 Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring--those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.
