The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
And the fifth angel sounded [his] trumpet: and I saw a star out of the heaven fallen to the earth; and there was given to it the key of the pit of the abyss. 1 The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss.
And it opened the pit of the abyss; and there went up smoke out of the pit as [the] smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened with the smoke of the pit. 2 When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss.
And out of the smoke came forth locusts on the earth, and power was given to them as the scorpions of the earth have power; 3 And out of the smoke locusts came down upon the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth.
and it was said to them, that they should not injure the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but the men who have not the seal of God on their foreheads: 4 They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.
and it was given to them that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months; and their torment [was] as [the] torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. 5 They were not given power to kill them, but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes a man.
And in those days shall men seek death, and shall in no way find it; and shall desire to die, and death flees from them. 6 During those days men will seek death, but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them.
And the likenesses of the locusts [were] like to horses prepared for war; and upon their heads as crowns like gold, and their faces as faces of men; 7 The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces.
and they had hair as women's hair, and their teeth were as of lions, 8 Their hair was like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth.
and they had breastplates as breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings [was] as the sound of chariots of many horses running to war; 9 They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle.
and they have tails like scorpions, and stings; and their power [was] in their tails to hurt men five months. 10 They had tails and stings like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months.
They have a king over them, the angel of the abyss: his name in Hebrew, Abaddon, and in Greek he has [for] name Apollyon. 11 They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon.
The first woe has passed. Behold, there come yet two woes after these things. 12 The first woe is past; two other woes are yet to come.
And the sixth angel sounded [his] trumpet: and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which [is] before God, 13 The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the horns of the golden altar that is before God.
saying to the sixth angel that had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound at the great river Euphrates. 14 It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates."
And the four angels were loosed, who are prepared for the hour and day and month and year, that they might slay the third part of men; 15 And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind.
and the number of the hosts of horse [was] twice ten thousand times ten thousand. I heard their number. 16 The number of the mounted troops was two hundred million. I heard their number.
And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and those that sat upon them, having breastplates of fire and jacinth and brimstone; and the heads of the horses [were] as heads of lions, and out of their mouths goes out fire and smoke and brimstone. 17 The horses and riders I saw in my vision looked like this: Their breastplates were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur. The heads of the horses resembled the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke and sulfur.
By these three plagues were the third part of men killed, by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which goes out of their mouths. 18 A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths.
For the power of the horses is in their mouth and in their tails: for their tails [are] like serpents, having heads, and with them they injure. 19 The power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails were like snakes, having heads with which they inflict injury.
And the rest of men who were not killed with these plagues repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and the golden and silver and brazen and stone and wooden idols, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. 20 The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood--idols that cannot see or hear or walk.
And they repented not of their murders, nor of their witchcrafts, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts. 21 Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.
