New Revised Standard (NRS) New International Version (NIV)
someone who is blameless, married only once, whose children are believers, not accused of debauchery and not rebellious. 6 An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.
For a bishop, as God's steward, must be blameless; he must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or addicted to wine or violent or greedy for gain; 7 Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless--not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.
but he must be hospitable, a lover of goodness, prudent, upright, devout, and self-controlled. 8 Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.
He must have a firm grasp of the word that is trustworthy in accordance with the teaching, so that he may be able both to preach with sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict it. 9 He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
