1 Corinthians 11

NKJV 1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ. NIV 1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. NKJV 2 Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you. NIV 2 I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings, just as I passed them on to you. NKJV 3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. NIV 3 Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. NKJV 4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. NIV 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. NKJV 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved. NIV 5 And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head--it is just as though her head were shaved. NKJV 6 For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. NIV 6 If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. NKJV 7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. NIV 7 A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. NKJV 8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man. NIV 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; NKJV 9 Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. NIV 9 neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. NKJV 10 For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. NIV 10 For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head. NKJV 11 Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord. NIV 11 In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. NKJV 12 For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God. NIV 12 For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. NKJV 13 Judge among yourselves. Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? NIV 13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? NKJV 14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? NIV 14 Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, NKJV 15 But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering. NIV 15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. NKJV 16 But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God. NIV 16 If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice--nor do the churches of God. NKJV 17 Now in giving these instructions I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse. NIV 17 In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good. NKJV 18 For first of all, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. NIV 18 In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it. NKJV 19 For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you. NIV 19 No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God's approval. NKJV 20 Therefore when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper. NIV 20 When you come together, it is not the Lord's Supper you eat, NKJV 21 For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of others; and one is hungry and another is drunk. NIV 21 for as you eat, each of you goes ahead without waiting for anybody else. One remains hungry, another gets drunk. NKJV 22 What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you. NIV 22 Don't you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? Certainly not! NKJV 23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; NIV 23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, NKJV 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." NIV 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." NKJV 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." NIV 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." NKJV 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. NIV 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. NKJV 27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. NIV 27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. NKJV 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. NIV 28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. NKJV 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. NIV 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. NKJV 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. NIV 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. NKJV 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. NIV 31 But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. NKJV 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. NIV 32 When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world. NKJV 33 Therefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. NIV 33 So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for each other. NKJV 34 But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgment. And the rest I will set in order when I come. NIV 34 If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment. And when I come I will give further directions.
