1 Entonces todo Israel se juntó a David en Hebrón, diciendo: He aquí nosotros somos tu hueso y tu carne.

All Israel came together to David at Hebron and said, “We are your own flesh and blood.
2 Y además de esto ayer y anteayer, aun mientras Saúl reinaba, tú sacabas y metías a Israel. También el SEÑOR tu Dios te ha dicho: Tú apacentarás mi pueblo Israel, y tú serás príncipe sobre Israel mi pueblo.

In the past, even while Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the LORD your God said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.’ ”
3 Y vinieron todos los ancianos de Israel al rey en Hebrón, y David hizo con ellos alianza delante del SEÑOR; y ungieron a David por rey sobre Israel, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR por mano de Samuel.

When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, he made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel, as the LORD had promised through Samuel.
4 Entonces se fue David con todo Israel a Jerusalén, la cual es Jebus; porque allí el jebuseo era habitador de aquella tierra.

David and all the Israelites marched to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus). The Jebusites who lived there
5 Y los <I>moradores</I> de Jebus dijeron a David: No entrarás acá. Mas David tomó la fortaleza de Sion, que es la ciudad de David.

said to David, “You will not get in here.” Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion—which is the City of David.
6 Y David dijo: El que primero hiriere al jebuseo, será cabeza y príncipe. Entonces Joab hijo de Sarvia <I>subió</I> el primero, y fue <I>hecho</I> príncipe.

David had said, “Whoever leads the attack on the Jebusites will become commander-in-chief.” Joab son of Zeruiah went up first, and so he received the command.
7 Y David habitó en la fortaleza, y por esto la llamaron la ciudad de David.

David then took up residence in the fortress, and so it was called the City of David.
8 Y edificó la ciudad alrededor, desde Millo hasta la cerca; y Joab edificó el resto de la ciudad.

He built up the city around it, from the terraces to the surrounding wall, while Joab restored the rest of the city.
9 Y David iba adelantando y creciendo, y el SEÑOR de los ejércitos era con él.

And David became more and more powerful, because the LORD Almighty was with him.
10 Estos son los capitanes de los valientes que David tuvo, y los que le ayudaron en su reino, con todo Israel, para hacerle rey sobre Israel, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR.

These were the chiefs of David’s mighty warriors—they, together with all Israel, gave his kingship strong support to extend it over the whole land, as the LORD had promised—
11 Y este <I>es</I> el número de los valientes que David tuvo: Jasobeam hijo de Hacmoni, príncipe de los treinta, el cual blandió su lanza una vez contra trescientos, a los cuales mató.

this is the list of David’s mighty warriors: Jashobeam, a Hakmonite, was chief of the officers ; he raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed in one encounter.
12 Tras de éste fue Eleazar hijo de Dodo, ahohíta, el cual era de los tres valientes.

Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite, one of the three mighty warriors.
13 Este estuvo con David en Pasdamim, estando allí juntos en batalla los filisteos; y había <I>allí</I> una heredad de tierra llena de cebada, y huyendo el pueblo delante de los filisteos,

He was with David at Pas Dammim when the Philistines gathered there for battle. At a place where there was a field full of barley, the troops fled from the Philistines.
14 se pusieron ellos en medio del cultivo, y la defendieron, y vencieron a los filisteos; y los salvó el SEÑOR de gran salud.

But they took their stand in the middle of the field. They defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the LORD brought about a great victory.
15 Y tres de los treinta principales descendieron a la peña a David, a la cueva de Adulam, estando el campamento de los filisteos en el valle de Rafaim.

Three of the thirty chiefs came down to David to the rock at the cave of Adullam, while a band of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.
16 Y David estaba entonces en la fortaleza, y la guarnición de filisteos estaba en Belén.

At that time David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem.
17 David deseó entonces, y dijo: ¡Quién me diera a beber de las aguas del pozo de Belén, que está a la puerta!

David longed for water and said, “Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!”
18 Y aquellos tres rompieron por el campamento de los filisteos, y sacaron agua del pozo de Belén, que está a la puerta, y tomaron y la trajeron a David; mas él no la quiso beber, sino que la derramó al SEÑOR, y dijo:

So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the LORD.
19 Guárdeme mi Dios de hacer esto. ¿Había <I>yo</I> de beber la sangre de estos varones con sus vidas, que con <I>peligro de</I> sus vidas la han traído? Y no la quiso beber. Esto hicieron aquellos tres valientes.

“God forbid that I should do this!” he said. “Should I drink the blood of these men who went at the risk of their lives?” Because they risked their lives to bring it back, David would not drink it. Such were the exploits of the three mighty warriors.
20 Y Abisai, hermano de Joab, era cabeza de los tres, el cual blandió su lanza sobre trescientos, a los cuales hirió; y fue entre los tres nombrado.

Abishai the brother of Joab was chief of the Three. He raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed, and so he became as famous as the Three.
21 Y fue el más ilustre de los tres <I>en</I> el segundo <I>ternario</I> , y fue príncipe de ellos; mas no llegó a los tres primeros.

He was doubly honored above the Three and became their commander, even though he was not included among them.
22 Benaía hijo de Joiada, hijo de varón de esfuerzo, de grandes hechos, de Cabseel; él venció los dos leones de Moab; también descendió, e hirió un león en mitad de un foso en tiempo de nieve.

Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, performed great exploits. He struck down Moab’s two mightiest warriors. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion.
23 El mismo venció a un egipcio, hombre de cinco codos de estatura; y el egipcio traía una lanza como un rodillo de <I>un</I> telar; mas él descendió a él con un bastón, y arrebató al egipcio la lanza de la mano, y lo mató con su misma lanza.

And he struck down an Egyptian who was five cubits tall. Although the Egyptian had a spear like a weaver’s rod in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with his own spear.
24 Esto hizo Benaía hijo de Joiada, y fue nombrado entre los tres valientes.

Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he too was as famous as the three mighty warriors.
25 Y fue el más honrado de los treinta, mas no llegó a los tres <I>primeros</I> . A éste puso David en su consejo.

He was held in greater honor than any of the Thirty, but he was not included among the Three. And David put him in charge of his bodyguard.
26 Y los valientes de los ejércitos: Asael hermano de Joab, y Elhanan hijo de Dodo de Belén;

The mighty warriors were: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan son of Dodo from Bethlehem,
27 Samot de Arori, Heles pelonita;

Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,
