1 Kings 6

LEB 1 It happened in the four hundred and eightieth year [after] the {Israelites} went out from the land of Egypt, in the fourth year {of Solomon's rule} over Israel, the month of Ziv (that [is] the second month), that he began to build the house for Yahweh. NIV 1 In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites had come out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, the second month, he began to build the temple of the LORD. LEB 2 Now the house that King Solomon built for Yahweh [was] sixty cubits [in] its length and twenty cubits [in] its width and thirty cubits [in] its height. NIV 2 The temple that King Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits long, twenty wide and thirty high. LEB 3 The vestibule on the face of the main hall of the temple [was] twenty cubits [in] its length, and the width of the temple [was] ten cubits wide on the face of the temple. NIV 3 The portico at the front of the main hall of the temple extended the width of the temple, that is twenty cubits, and projected ten cubits from the front of the temple. LEB 4 And he made for the temple specially designed framed windows, NIV 4 He made narrow clerestory windows in the temple. LEB 5 and he built a structure against the wall of the temple [running] all along the walls of the house, for the outer sanctuary and for the inner sanctuary, and made side rooms all around. NIV 5 Against the walls of the main hall and inner sanctuary he built a structure around the building, in which there were side rooms. LEB 6 The lower structure [was] five cubits in its width and the middle [was] six cubits in its width and the third [was] seven cubits in its width, for he made niches for the temple all around to the outside, [so that] beams [would] not attach to the walls of the temple. NIV 6 The lowest floor was five cubits wide, the middle floor six cubits and the third floor seven. He made offset ledges around the outside of the temple so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls. LEB 7 Now while the temple was being built, it was built [with] stones finished [at the] quarry, [so that] no hammer or stone shaping tool or any instrument of iron was heard in the temple as it was being built. NIV 7 In building the temple, only blocks dressed at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool was heard at the temple site while it was being built. LEB 8 The doorway of the side room in the middle of the side of the temple [was] on the south; they went up with a stairway to the middle and from the middle to the third [floor]. NIV 8 The entrance to the lowest floor was on the south side of the temple; a stairway led up to the middle level and from there to the third. LEB 9 So he built the house and finished it. He covered the temple [with] rafters and wood planks and with the cedars. NIV 9 So he built the temple and completed it, roofing it with beams and cedar planks. LEB 10 He also built the structure against all of the temple five cubits in height and fastened it to the temple with beams of cedar. NIV 10 And he built the side rooms all along the temple. The height of each was five cubits, and they were attached to the temple by beams of cedar. LEB 11 Then the word of Yahweh came to Solomon, saying, NIV 11 The word of the LORD came to Solomon: LEB 12 "[Regarding] this temple that you are building: if you walk in my ordinances and if you do my judgments and you keep all my commandments to walk in them, then I will establish my promise with you which I made to David your father. NIV 12 "As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, carry out my regulations and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise I gave to David your father. LEB 13 And I will dwell {among} the {Israelites}, and I will not forsake my people Israel." NIV 13 And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon my people Israel." LEB 14 So Solomon built the temple and finished it. NIV 14 So Solomon built the temple and completed it. LEB 15 He lined the walls {of the inside of the house} with boards of cedar; from the floor of the temple up to the rafters of the ceiling he covered [them with] wood {on the inside}. He also covered the floor of the temple with cypress boards. NIV 15 He lined its interior walls with cedar boards, paneling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling, and covered the floor of the temple with planks of pine. LEB 16 He built twenty cubits from the rear of the house with boards of cedar from the floor up to the ceiling, and he built for it an inner sanctuary on the inside, as the {most holy place}. NIV 16 He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with cedar boards from floor to ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place. LEB 17 The main hall of the temple was forty cubits {in front of the inner sanctuary}, NIV 17 The main hall in front of this room was forty cubits long. LEB 18 with the cedar within the inner house [having] carvings of gourds and buds of flowers. It [was] entirely of cedar; there was not a stone visible. NIV 18 The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar; no stone was to be seen. LEB 19 Now [in] the inner sanctuary in the middle of the temple he prepared the inside to place the ark of the covenant of Yahweh there. NIV 19 He prepared the inner sanctuary within the temple to set the ark of the covenant of the LORD there. LEB 20 In front, the inner sanctuary [was] twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide and twenty cubits high, and he overlaid it [with] pure gold and covered the altar [with] cedar. NIV 20 The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar. LEB 21 Solomon overlaid the temple on the inside [with] pure gold, and he drew across it with golden chains in front of the inner sanctuary, which he overlaid with gold. NIV 21 Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold. LEB 22 All of the temple he overlaid with gold until all of the temple [was] finished; all of the altar which belonged to the inner sanctuary he overlaid with gold. NIV 22 So he overlaid the whole interior with gold. He also overlaid with gold the altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary. LEB 23 He made two cherubim of olive wood for the inner sanctuary, ten cubits high. NIV 23 In the inner sanctuary he made a pair of cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high. LEB 24 Five cubits [was] the first wing of the cherub, and five cubits the second wing of the cherub, from the tip of his [one] wing up to the tip of his [other] wing. NIV 24 One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long, and the other wing five cubits--ten cubits from wing tip to wing tip. LEB 25 The second cherub [was] ten cubits [according to] {the same} measurement, and [there] was one shape for the two cherubim. NIV 25 The second cherub also measured ten cubits, for the two cherubim were identical in size and shape. LEB 26 The height of the first cherub [was] ten cubits and so [was] the second cherub. NIV 26 The height of each cherub was ten cubits. LEB 27 He placed the cherubim in the middle of the inner house, and they spread out the wings of the cherubim; the wing of the first cherub touched against the wall and the wing of the second cherub [was] touching against the second wall; their wings [spread] to the middle of the house [and were] touching wing to wing. NIV 27 He placed the cherubim inside the innermost room of the temple, with their wings spread out. The wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room. LEB 28 He also overlaid the cherubim with gold. NIV 28 He overlaid the cherubim with gold. LEB 29 On all of the walls around the house, he carved engravings of cherubim and palm tree images and budding flowers both inside and out. NIV 29 On the walls all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers. LEB 30 He overlaid the floor of the house with gold both inside and out. NIV 30 He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold. LEB 31 He made doors of olive wood for the doorway of the inner sanctuary, [as well as for] the doorpost of the fifth doorframe. NIV 31 For the entrance of the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood with five-sided jambs. LEB 32 [On] the two doors of olive wood he made carvings of cherubim and palm tree images and budding flowers, and he overlaid them with gold {by beating} out the gold on the cherubim and the palm tree images. NIV 32 And on the two olive wood doors he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid the cherubim and palm trees with beaten gold. LEB 33 Thus he made doorframes of olive wood on four sides for the doorway of the main hall NIV 33 In the same way he made four-sided jambs of olive wood for the entrance to the main hall. LEB 34 and two doors of cypress wood; one door [with] two folding panels and the second door [with] two folding panels. NIV 34 He also made two pine doors, each having two leaves that turned in sockets. LEB 35 He carved cherubim and palm tree images and budding flowers and overlaid them with gold evenly applied on the carved work. NIV 35 He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on them and overlaid them with gold hammered evenly over the carvings. LEB 36 Then he built the inner courtyard [with] three rows of dressed stone and a row of cedar beams. NIV 36 And he built the inner courtyard of three courses of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams. LEB 37 In the fourth year, the house of Yahweh was founded in the month of Ziv. NIV 37 The foundation of the temple of the LORD was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv. LEB 38 In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, that is, the eighth month, the house was finished [according] to all his specifications and [according] to all his plans. He had built it in seven years. NIV 38 In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it.
