RSV 6 For it stands in scripture: "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame." NIV 6 For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame." RSV 7 To you therefore who believe, he is precious, but for those who do not believe, "The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner," NIV 7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone, " RSV 8 and "A stone that will make men stumble, a rock that will make them fall"; for they stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. RSV 13 Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, NIV 13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, RSV 14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right. NIV 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. RSV 19 For one is approved if, mindful of God, he endures pain while suffering unjustly. NIV 19 For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. RSV 20 For what credit is it, if when you do wrong and are beaten for it you take it patiently? But if when you do right and suffer for it you take it patiently, you have God's approval. NIV 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. RSV 21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
