1 Peter 5

DBY 1 The elders which [are] among you I exhort, who [am their] fellow-elder and witness of the sufferings of the Christ, who also [am] partaker of the glory about to be revealed: NIV 1 To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: DBY 2 shepherd the flock of God which [is] among you, exercising oversight, not by necessity, but willingly; not for base gain, but readily; NIV 2 Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers--not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; DBY 3 not as lording it over your possessions, but being models for the flock. NIV 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. DBY 4 And when the chief shepherd is manifested ye shall receive the unfading crown of glory. NIV 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away. DBY 5 Likewise [ye] younger, be subject to [the] elder, and all of you bind on humility towards one another; for God sets himself against [the] proud, but to [the] humble gives grace. NIV 5 Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." DBY 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in [the due] time; NIV 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. DBY 7 having cast all your care upon him, for he cares about you. NIV 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. DBY 8 Be vigilant, watch. Your adversary [the] devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour. NIV 8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. DBY 9 Whom resist, stedfast in faith, knowing that the selfsame sufferings are accomplished in your brotherhood which [is] in [the] world. NIV 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. DBY 10 But the God of all grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, when ye have suffered for a little while, himself shall make perfect, stablish, strengthen, ground: NIV 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. DBY 11 to him [be] the glory and the might for the ages of the ages. Amen. NIV 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. DBY 12 By Silvanus, the faithful brother, as I suppose, I have written to you briefly; exhorting and testifying that this is [the] true grace of God in which ye stand. NIV 12 With the help of Silas, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it. DBY 13 She that is elected with [you] in Babylon salutes you, and Marcus my son. NIV 13 She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark. DBY 14 Salute one another with a kiss of love. Peace be with you all who [are] in Christ. NIV 14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
