1 Timothy 2

DBY 1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made for all men; NIV 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- DBY 2 for kings and all that are in dignity, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and gravity; NIV 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. DBY 3 for this is good and acceptable before our Saviour God, NIV 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, DBY 4 who desires that all men should be saved and come to [the] knowledge of [the] truth. NIV 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. DBY 5 For God is one, and [the] mediator of God and men one, [the] man Christ Jesus, NIV 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, DBY 6 who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony [to be rendered] in its own times; NIV 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time. DBY 7 to which *I* have been appointed a herald and apostle, (I speak [the] truth, I do not lie,) a teacher of [the] nations in faith and truth. NIV 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles. DBY 8 I will therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up pious hands, without wrath or reasoning. NIV 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing. DBY 9 In like manner also that the women in decent deportment and dress adorn themselves with modesty and discretion, not with plaited [hair] and gold, or pearls, or costly clothing, NIV 9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, DBY 10 but, what becomes women making profession of the fear of God, by good works. NIV 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. DBY 11 Let a woman learn in quietness in all subjection; NIV 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. DBY 12 but I do not suffer a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over man, but to be in quietness; NIV 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. DBY 13 for Adam was formed first, then Eve: NIV 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. DBY 14 and Adam was not deceived; but the woman, having been deceived, was in transgression. NIV 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. DBY 15 But she shall be preserved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with discretion. NIV 15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
