1 Timothy 2

ESV 1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, NIV 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- ESV 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. NIV 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. ESV 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, NIV 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, ESV 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. NIV 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. ESV 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, NIV 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, ESV 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. NIV 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time. ESV 7 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. NIV 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles. ESV 8 I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; NIV 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing. ESV 9 likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, NIV 9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, ESV 10 but with what is proper for women who profess godliness--with good works. NIV 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. ESV 11 Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. NIV 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. ESV 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. NIV 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. ESV 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; NIV 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. ESV 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. NIV 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. ESV 15 Yet she will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control. NIV 15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
