1 Chronicles 13

NRS 1 David consulted with the commanders of the thousands and of the hundreds, with every leader. NIV 1 David conferred with each of his officers, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds. NRS 2 David said to the whole assembly of Israel, "If it seems good to you, and if it is the will of the Lord our God, let us send abroad to our kindred who remain in all the land of Israel, including the priests and Levites in the cities that have pasture lands, that they may come together to us. NIV 2 He then said to the whole assembly of Israel, "If it seems good to you and if it is the will of the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our brothers throughout the territories of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their towns and pasturelands, to come and join us. NRS 3 Then let us bring again the ark of our God to us; for we did not turn to it in the days of Saul." NIV 3 Let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we did not inquire of it during the reign of Saul." NRS 4 The whole assembly agreed to do so, for the thing pleased all the people. NIV 4 The whole assembly agreed to do this, because it seemed right to all the people. NRS 5 So David assembled all Israel from the Shihor of Egypt to Lebo-hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim. NIV 5 So David assembled all the Israelites, from the Shihor River in Egypt to Lebo Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim. NRS 6 And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim, which belongs to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, the Lord, who is enthroned on the cherubim, which is called by his name. NIV 6 David and all the Israelites with him went to Baalah of Judah (Kiriath Jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD, who is enthroned between the cherubim--the ark that is called by the Name. NRS 7 They carried the ark of God on a new cart, from the house of Abinadab, and Uzzah and Ahio were driving the cart. NIV 7 They moved the ark of God from Abinadab's house on a new cart, with Uzzah and Ahio guiding it. NRS 8 David and all Israel were dancing before God with all their might, with song and lyres and harps and tambourines and cymbals and trumpets. NIV 8 David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, tambourines, cymbals and trumpets. NRS 9 When they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah put out his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen shook it. NIV 9 When they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark, because the oxen stumbled. NRS 10 The anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; he struck him down because he put out his hand to the ark; and he died there before God. NIV 10 The LORD's anger burned against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God. NRS 11 David was angry because the Lord had burst out against Uzzah; so that place is called Perez-uzzah to this day. NIV 11 Then David was angry because the LORD's wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah. NRS 12 David was afraid of God that day; he said, "How can I bring the ark of God into my care?" NIV 12 David was afraid of God that day and asked, "How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?" NRS 13 So David did not take the ark into his care into the city of David; he took it instead to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. NIV 13 He did not take the ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it aside to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. NRS 14 The ark of God remained with the household of Obed-edom in his house three months, and the Lord blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that he had. NIV 14 The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed his household and everything he had.
