1 Corinthians 6:1-8

MSG

NIV

1 And how dare you take each other to court! When you think you have been wronged, does it make any sense to go before a court that knows nothing of God's ways instead of a family of Christians?
1 If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people?
2 The day is coming when the world is going to stand before a jury made up of Christians. If someday you are going to rule on the world's fate, wouldn't it be a good idea to practice on some of these smaller cases?
2 Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
3 Why, we're even going to judge angels! So why not these everyday affairs?
3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
4 As these disagreements and wrongs surface, why would you ever entrust them to the judgment of people you don't trust in any other way?
4 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church?
5 I say this as bluntly as I can to wake you up to the stupidity of what you're doing. Is it possible that there isn't one levelheaded person among you who can make fair decisions when disagreements and disputes come up? I don't believe it.
5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?
6 And here you are taking each other to court before people who don't even believe in God! How can they render justice if they don't believe in the God of justice?
6 But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers!
7 These court cases are an ugly blot on your community. Wouldn't it be far better to just take it, to let yourselves be wronged and forget it?
7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?
8 All you're doing is providing fuel for more wrong, more injustice, bringing more hurt to the people of your own spiritual family.
8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters.
