1 John 2

YLT 1 My little children, these things I write to you, that ye may not sin: and if any one may sin, an advocate we have with the Father, Jesus Christ, a righteous one, NIV 1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. YLT 2 and he -- he is a propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world, NIV 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. YLT 3 and in this we know that we have known him, if his commands we may keep; NIV 3 We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. YLT 4 he who is saying, `I have known him,' and his command is not keeping, a liar he is, and in him the truth is not; NIV 4 The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. YLT 5 and whoever may keep his word, truly in him the love of God hath been perfected; in this we know that in him we are. NIV 5 But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: YLT 6 He who is saying in him he doth remain, ought according as he walked also himself so to walk. NIV 6 Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did. YLT 7 Brethren, a new command I write not to you, but an old command, that ye had from the beginning -- the old command is the word that ye heard from the beginning; NIV 7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. YLT 8 again, a new command I write to you, which thing is true in him and in you, because the darkness doth pass away, and the true light doth now shine; NIV 8 Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. YLT 9 he who is saying, in the light he is, and his brother is hating, in the darkness he is till now; NIV 9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness. YLT 10 he who is loving his brother, in the light he doth remain, and a stumbling-block in him there is not; NIV 10 Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. YLT 11 and he who is hating his brother, in the darkness he is, and in the darkness he doth walk, and he hath not known whither he doth go, because the darkness did blind his eyes. NIV 11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him. YLT 12 I write to you, little children, because the sins have been forgiven you through his name; NIV 12 I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name. YLT 13 I write to you, fathers, because ye have known him who [is] from the beginning; I write to you, young men, because ye have overcome the evil. I write to you, little youths, because ye have known the Father: NIV 13 I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father. YLT 14 I did write to you, fathers, because ye have known him who [is] from the beginning; I did write to you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God in you doth remain, and ye have overcome the evil. NIV 14 I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one. YLT 15 Love not ye the world, nor the things in the world; if any one doth love the world, the love of the Father is not in him, NIV 15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. YLT 16 because all that [is] in the world -- the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the ostentation of the life -- is not of the Father, but of the world, NIV 16 For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from the world. YLT 17 and the world doth pass away, and the desire of it, and he who is doing the will of God, he doth remain -- to the age. NIV 17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. YLT 18 Little youths, it is the last hour; and even as ye heard that the antichrist doth come, even now antichrists have become many -- whence we know that it is the last hour; NIV 18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. YLT 19 out of us they went forth, but they were not of us, for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but -- that they might be manifested that they are not all of us. NIV 19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us. YLT 20 And ye have an anointing from the Holy One, and have known all things; NIV 20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. YLT 21 I did not write to you because ye have not known the truth, but because ye have known it, and because no lie is of the truth. NIV 21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. YLT 22 Who is the liar, except he who is denying that Jesus is the Christ? this one is the antichrist who is denying the Father and the Son; NIV 22 Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist--he denies the Father and the Son. YLT 23 every one who is denying the Son, neither hath he the Father, [he who is confessing the Son hath the Father also.] NIV 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also. YLT 24 Ye, then, that which ye heard from the beginning, in you let it remain; if in you may remain that which from the beginning ye did hear, ye also in the Son and in the Father shall remain, NIV 24 See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. YLT 25 and this is the promise that He did promise us -- the life the age-during. NIV 25 And this is what he promised us--even eternal life. YLT 26 These things I did write to you concerning those leading you astray; NIV 26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. YLT 27 and you, the anointing that ye did receive from him, in you it doth remain, and ye have no need that any one may teach you, but as the same anointing doth teach you concerning all, and is true, and is not a lie, and even as was taught you, ye shall remain in him. NIV 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him. YLT 28 And now, little children, remain in him, that when he may be manifested, we may have boldness, and may not be ashamed before him, in his presence; NIV 28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming. YLT 29 if ye know that he is righteous, know ye that every one doing the righteousness, of him hath been begotten. NIV 29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.
