1 Kings 11:36-43

RSV 36 Yet to his son I will give one tribe, that David my servant may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city where I have chosen to put my name. NIV 38 If you do whatever I command you and walk in my ways and do what is right in my eyes by keeping my statutes and commands, as David my servant did, I will be with you. I will build you a dynasty as enduring as the one I built for David and will give Israel to you. RSV 39 And I will for this afflict the descendants of David, but not for ever.'" NIV 39 I will humble David's descendants because of this, but not forever.' " RSV 40 Solomon sought therefore to kill Jerobo'am; but Jerobo'am arose, and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon. NIV 40 Solomon tried to kill Jeroboam, but Jeroboam fled to Egypt, to Shishak the king, and stayed there until Solomon's death. RSV 41 Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon? NIV 41 As for the other events of Solomon's reign--all he did and the wisdom he displayed--are they not written in the book of the annals of Solomon? RSV 42 And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. NIV 42 Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years. RSV 43 And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father; and Rehobo'am his son reigned in his stead. NIV 43 Then he rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of David his father. And Rehoboam his son succeeded him as king.
