1 Kings 4:27-34

RSV 27 And those officers supplied provisions for King Solomon, and for all who came to King Solomon's table, each one in his month; they let nothing be lacking. NIV 27 The district officers, each in his month, supplied provisions for King Solomon and all who came to the king's table. They saw to it that nothing was lacking. RSV 28 Barley also and straw for the horses and swift steeds they brought to the place where it was required, each according to his charge. NIV 28 They also brought to the proper place their quotas of barley and straw for the chariot horses and the other horses. RSV 29 And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and largeness of mind like the sand on the seashore, NIV 29 God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. RSV 30 so that Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east, and all the wisdom of Egypt. NIV 30 Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the men of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. RSV 31 For he was wiser than all other men, wiser than Ethan the Ez'rahite, and Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was in all the nations round about. NIV 31 He was wiser than any other man, including Ethan the Ezrahite--wiser than Heman, Calcol and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations. RSV 32 He also uttered three thousand proverbs; and his songs were a thousand and five. NIV 32 He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five. RSV 33 He spoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of the wall; he spoke also of beasts, and of birds, and of reptiles, and of fish. NIV 33 He described plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of walls. He also taught about animals and birds, reptiles and fish. RSV 34 And men came from all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and from all the kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom. NIV 34 Men of all nations came to listen to Solomon's wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.
