1 Peter 2:13-20

NAS 13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, NIV 13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, NAS 14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. NIV 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. NAS 15 For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. NIV 15 For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. NAS 16 Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. NIV 16 Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. NAS 17 Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king. NIV 17 Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king. NAS 18 Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable. NIV 18 Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. NAS 19 For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. NIV 19 For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. NAS 20 For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God. NIV 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.
