1 Thessalonians 4:1-12

NLT 1 Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more. NIV 1 Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. NLT 2 For you remember what we taught you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. NIV 2 For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. NLT 3 God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. NIV 3 It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; NLT 4 Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor— NIV 4 that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, NLT 5 not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. NIV 5 not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; NLT 6 Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. NIV 6 and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. NLT 7 God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. NIV 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. NLT 8 Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you. NIV 8 Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit. NLT 9 But we don’t need to write to you about the importance of loving each other, for God himself has taught you to love one another. NIV 9 Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. NLT 10 Indeed, you already show your love for all the believers throughout Macedonia. Even so, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you to love them even more. NIV 10 And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more. NLT 11 Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. NIV 11 Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, NLT 12 Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others. NIV 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
