1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

RSV 13 But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. NIV 13 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. RSV 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. NIV 14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. RSV 15 For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep. NIV 15 According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. RSV 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the archangel's call, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first; NIV 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. RSV 17 then we who are alive, who are left, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so we shall always be with the Lord. NIV 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. RSV 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. NIV 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words.
