1 Timothy 2

NLT 1 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. As you make your requests, plead for God's mercy upon them, and give thanks. NIV 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- NLT 2 Pray this way for kings and all others who are in authority, so that we can live in peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity. NIV 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. NLT 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, NIV 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, NLT 4 for he wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. NIV 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. NLT 5 For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and people. He is the man Christ Jesus. NIV 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, NLT 6 He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message that God gave to the world at the proper time. NIV 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time. NLT 7 And I have been chosen -- this is the absolute truth -- as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles about faith and truth. NIV 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles. NLT 8 So wherever you assemble, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy. NIV 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing. NLT 9 And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. NIV 9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, NLT 10 For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do. NIV 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. NLT 11 Women should listen and learn quietly and submissively. NIV 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. NLT 12 I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly. NIV 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. NLT 13 For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve. NIV 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. NLT 14 And it was the woman, not Adam, who was deceived by Satan, and sin was the result. NIV 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. NLT 15 But women will be saved through childbearing and by continuing to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty. NIV 15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
