2 Corinthians 1

WEB 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the assembly of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia: NIV 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the church of God in Corinth, together with all the saints throughout Achaia: WEB 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. WEB 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; NIV 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, WEB 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. NIV 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. WEB 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Christ. NIV 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. WEB 6 But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which works in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer. NIV 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. WEB 7 Our hope for you is steadfast, knowing that, since you are partakers of the sufferings, so also are you of the comfort. NIV 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort. WEB 8 For we don't desire to have you uninformed, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life. NIV 8 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. WEB 9 Yes, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead, NIV 9 Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. WEB 10 who delivered us out of so great a death, and does deliver; on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us; NIV 10 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, WEB 11 you also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift bestowed on us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on your behalf. NIV 11 as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many. WEB 12 For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you. NIV 12 Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God. We have done so not according to worldly wisdom but according to God's grace. WEB 13 For we write no other things to you, than what you read or even acknowledge, and I hope you will acknowledge to the end; NIV 13 For we do not write you anything you cannot read or understand. And I hope that, WEB 14 as also you acknowledged us in part, that we are your boasting, even as you also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus. NIV 14 as you have understood us in part, you will come to understand fully that you can boast of us just as we will boast of you in the day of the Lord Jesus. WEB 15 In this confidence, I was determined to come first to you, that you might have a second benefit; NIV 15 Because I was confident of this, I planned to visit you first so that you might benefit twice. WEB 16 and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and to be sent forward by you on my journey to Judea. NIV 16 I planned to visit you on my way to Macedonia and to come back to you from Macedonia, and then to have you send me on my way to Judea. WEB 17 When I therefore was thus determined, did I show fickleness? Or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the "Yes, yes" and the "No, no?" NIV 17 When I planned this, did I do it lightly? Or do I make my plans in a worldly manner so that in the same breath I say, "Yes, yes" and "No, no"? WEB 18 But as God is faithful, our word toward you was not "Yes and no." NIV 18 But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not "Yes" and "No." WEB 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, by me, Silvanus, and Timothy, was not "Yes and no," but in him is "Yes." NIV 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy, was not "Yes" and "No," but in him it has always been "Yes." WEB 20 For however many are the promises of God, in him is the "Yes." Therefore also through him is the "Amen," to the glory of God through us. NIV 20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. WEB 21 Now he who establishes us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God; NIV 21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, WEB 22 who also sealed us, and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts. NIV 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. WEB 23 But I call God for a witness to my soul, that I didn't come to Corinth to spare you. NIV 23 I call God as my witness that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth. WEB 24 Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are fellow workers with you for your joy. For you stand firm in faith. NIV 24 Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm.
