2 Peter 1

NRS 1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith as precious as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: NIV 1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: NRS 2 May grace and peace be yours in abundance in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. NIV 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. NRS 3 His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. NIV 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. NRS 4 Thus he has given us, through these things, his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust, and may become participants of the divine nature. NIV 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. NRS 5 For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge, NIV 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; NRS 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness, NIV 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; NRS 7 and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love. NIV 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. NRS 8 For if these things are yours and are increasing among you, they keep you from being ineffective and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. NRS 9 For anyone who lacks these things is nearsighted and blind, and is forgetful of the cleansing of past sins. NIV 9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. NRS 10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more eager to confirm your call and election, for if you do this, you will never stumble. NIV 10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, NRS 11 For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you. NIV 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. NRS 12 Therefore I intend to keep on reminding you of these things, though you know them already and are established in the truth that has come to you. NIV 12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. NRS 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to refresh your memory, NIV 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, NRS 14 since I know that my death will come soon, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. NIV 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. NRS 15 And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things. NIV 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things. NRS 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. NIV 16 We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. NRS 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased." NIV 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." NRS 18 We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain. NIV 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. NRS 19 So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. NIV 19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. NRS 20 First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, NIV 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. NRS 21 because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. NIV 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
