2 Peter 1

RHE 1 Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ: to them that have obtained equal faith with us in the justice of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ. NIV 1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: RHE 2 Grace to you and peace be accomplished in the knowledge of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord. NIV 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. RHE 3 As all things of his divine power which appertain to life and godliness are given us through the knowledge of him who hath called us by his own proper glory and virtue. NIV 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. RHE 4 By whom he hath given us most great and precious promises: that by these you may be made partakers of the divine nature: flying the corruption of that concupiscence which is in the world. NIV 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. RHE 5 And you, employing all care, minister in your faith, virtue: And in virtue, knowledge: NIV 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; RHE 6 And in knowledge, abstinence: and in abstinence, patience: and in patience, godliness: NIV 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; RHE 7 And in godliness, love of brotherhood: and in love of brotherhood, charity. NIV 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. RHE 8 For if these things be with you and abound, they will make you to be neither empty nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. RHE 9 For he that hath not these things with him is blind and groping, having forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. NIV 9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. RHE 10 Wherefore, brethren, labour the more, that by good works you may make sure your calling and election. For doing these things, you shall not sin at any time. NIV 10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, RHE 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the ever-lasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. NIV 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. RHE 12 For which cause, I will begin to put you always in remembrance of these things: though indeed you know them and are confirmed in the present truth. NIV 12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. RHE 13 But I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance. NIV 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, RHE 14 Being assured that the laying away of this my tabernacle is at hand, according as our Lord Jesus Christ also hath signified to me. NIV 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. RHE 15 And I will endeavour that you frequently have after my decease whereby you may keep a memory of these things. NIV 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things. RHE 16 For we have not by following artificial fables made known to you the power and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ: but we were eyewitnesses of his greatness. NIV 16 We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. RHE 17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, this voice coming down to him from the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye him. NIV 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." RHE 18 And this voice, we heard brought from heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount. NIV 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. RHE 19 And we have the more firm prophetical word: whereunto you do well to attend, as to a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn and the day star arise in your hearts. NIV 19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. RHE 20 Understanding this first: That no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation. NIV 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. RHE 21 For prophecy came not by the will of man at any time: but the holy men of God spoke, inspired by the Holy Ghost. NIV 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
