2 Timothy 1

NIRV 1 I, Paul, am writing this letter. I am an apostle of Christ Jesus just as God planned. He sent me to tell about the promise of life that is found in Christ Jesus. NIV 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus, NIRV 2 Timothy, I am sending you this letter. You are my dear son. May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy and peace. NIV 2 To Timothy, my dear son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. NIRV 3 I serve God, knowing that what I have done is right. That is how our people served him long ago. Night and day I thank God for you. Night and day I always remember you in my prayers. NIV 3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. NIRV 4 I remember your tears. I long to see you so that I can be filled with joy. NIV 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. NIRV 5 I remember your honest and true faith. It was alive first in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice. And I am certain that it is now alive in you also. NIV 5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. NIRV 6 That is why I remind you to help God's gift grow, just as a small spark grows into a fire. God put his gift in you when I placed my hands on you. NIV 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. NIRV 7 God didn't give us a spirit that makes us weak and fearful. He gave us a spirit that gives us power and love. It helps us control ourselves. NIV 7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. NIRV 8 So don't be ashamed to give witness about our Lord. And don't be ashamed of me, his prisoner. Instead, join with me as I suffer for the good news. God's power will help us do that. NIV 8 So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, NIRV 9 God has saved us. He has chosen us to live a holy life. It wasn't because of anything we have done. It was because of his own purpose and grace. Through Christ Jesus, God gave us that grace even before time began. NIV 9 who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, NIRV 10 It has now been made known through the coming of our Savior, Christ Jesus. He has destroyed death. Because of the good news, he has brought life out into the light. That life never dies. NIV 10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. NIRV 11 I was appointed to announce the good news. I was appointed to be an apostle and a teacher. NIV 11 And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. NIRV 12 That's why I'm suffering the way I am. But I'm not ashamed. I know the One I have believed in. I am sure he is able to take care of what I have given him. I can trust him with it until the day he returns as judge. NIV 12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day. NIRV 13 Follow what you heard from me as the pattern of true teaching. Follow it with faith and love because you belong to Christ Jesus. NIV 13 What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. NIRV 14 Guard the truth of the good news that you were trusted with. Guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. NIV 14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you--guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. NIRV 15 You know that all the believers in Asia Minor have deserted me. They include Phygelus and Hermogenes. NIV 15 You know that everyone in the province of Asia has deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes. NIRV 16 May the Lord show mercy to all who live in the house of Onesiphorus. He often cheered me up. He was not ashamed that I was being held by chains. NIV 16 May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains. NIRV 17 In fact, it was just the opposite. When he was in Rome, he looked everywhere for me. At last he found me. NIV 17 On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he searched hard for me until he found me. NIRV 18 May Onesiphorus find mercy from the Lord on the day Jesus returns as judge. You know very well how many ways Onesiphorus helped me in Ephesus. NIV 18 May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that day! You know very well in how many ways he helped me in Ephesus.
