2 Corinthians 12:1-10

ESV 1 I must go on boasting. Though there is nothing to be gained by it, I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. NIV 1 I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. ESV 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven--whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. NIV 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know--God knows. ESV 3 And I know that this man was caught up into paradise--whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows-- NIV 3 And I know that this man--whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows-- ESV 4 and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter. NIV 4 was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell. ESV 5 On behalf of this man I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses. NIV 5 I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses. ESV 6 Though if I should wish to boast, I would not be a fool, for I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain from it, so that no one may think more of me than he sees in me or hears from me. NIV 6 Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say. ESV 7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations,a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. NIV 7 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. ESV 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. NIV 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. ESV 9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. NIV 9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. ESV 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. NIV 10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
