2 Corinthians 2:1-9

NAS 1 But I determined this for my own sake, that I would not come to you in sorrow again. NIV 1 So I made up my mind that I would not make another painful visit to you. NAS 2 For if I cause you sorrow, who then makes me glad but the one whom I made sorrowful? NIV 2 For if I grieve you, who is left to make me glad but you whom I have grieved? NAS 3 This is the very thing I wrote you, so that when I came, I would not have sorrow from those who ought to make me rejoice; having confidence in you all that my joy would be the joy of you all. NIV 3 I wrote as I did so that when I came I should not be distressed by those who ought to make me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would all share my joy. NAS 4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears; not so that you would be made sorrowful, but that you might know the love which I have especially for you. NIV 4 For I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to grieve you but to let you know the depth of my love for you. NAS 5 But if any has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow not to me, but in some degree -in order not to say too much -to all of you. NIV 5 If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you, to some extent--not to put it too severely. NAS 6 Sufficient for such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the majority, NIV 6 The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient for him. NAS 7 so that on the contrary you should rather forgive and comfort him, otherwise such a one might be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. NIV 7 Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. NAS 8 Wherefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him. NIV 8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. NAS 9 For to this end also I wrote, so that I might put you to the test, whether you are obedient in all things. NIV 9 The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.
