2 Timothy 2

YLT 1 Thou, therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that [is] in Christ Jesus, NIV 1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. YLT 2 and the things that thou didst hear from me through many witnesses, these things be committing to stedfast men, who shall be sufficient also others to teach; NIV 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. YLT 3 thou, therefore, suffer evil as a good soldier of Jesus Christ; NIV 3 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. YLT 4 no one serving as a soldier did entangle himself with the affairs of life, that him who did enlist him he may please; NIV 4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to please his commanding officer. YLT 5 and if also any one may strive, he is not crowned, except he may strive lawfully; NIV 5 Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules. YLT 6 the labouring husbandman it behoveth first of the fruits to partake; NIV 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. YLT 7 be considering what things I say, for the Lord give to thee understanding in all things. NIV 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this. YLT 8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised out of the dead, of the seed of David, according to my good news, NIV 8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, YLT 9 in which I suffer evil -- unto bonds, as an evil-doer, but the word of God hath not been bound; NIV 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained. YLT 10 because of this all things do I endure, because of the choice ones, that they also salvation may obtain that [is] in Christ Jesus, with glory age-during. NIV 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. YLT 11 Stedfast [is] the word: For if we died together -- we also shall live together; NIV 11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; YLT 12 if we do endure together -- we shall also reign together; if we deny [him], he also shall deny us; NIV 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; YLT 13 if we are not stedfast, he remaineth stedfast; to deny himself he is not able. NIV 13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself. YLT 14 These things remind [them] of, testifying fully before the Lord -- not to strive about words to nothing profitable, but to the subversion of those hearing; NIV 14 Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. YLT 15 be diligent to present thyself approved to God -- a workman irreproachable, rightly dividing the word of the truth; NIV 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. YLT 16 and the profane vain talkings stand aloof from, for to more impiety they will advance, NIV 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. YLT 17 and their word as a gangrene will have pasture, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus, NIV 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, YLT 18 who concerning the truth did swerve, saying the rising again to have already been, and do overthrow the faith of some; NIV 18 who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. YLT 19 sure, nevertheless, hath the foundation of God stood, having this seal, `The Lord hath known those who are His,' and `Let him depart from unrighteousness -- every one who is naming the name of Christ.' NIV 19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness." YLT 20 And in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth, and some to honour, and some to dishonour: NIV 20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. YLT 21 if, then, any one may cleanse himself from these, he shall be a vessel to honour, sanctified and profitable to the master -- to every good work having been prepared, NIV 21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. YLT 22 and the youthful lusts flee thou, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those calling upon the Lord out of a pure heart; NIV 22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. YLT 23 and the foolish and uninstructed questions be avoiding, having known that they beget strife, NIV 23 Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. YLT 24 and a servant of the Lord it behoveth not to strive, but to be gentle unto all, apt to teach, patient under evil, NIV 24 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. YLT 25 in meekness instructing those opposing -- if perhaps God may give to them repentance to an acknowledging of the truth, NIV 25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, YLT 26 and they may awake out of the devil's snare, having been caught by him at his will. NIV 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
